How Will You Know it Worked?

You have a task, or a goal, or simply - you have work to do. How will you know it worked?

Let’s say a team takes on a task to fix a known bug. How will the team know it worked? Meaning they have successfully fixed the bug. Should the team even consider this question?

In Software Development it seems that tasks and goals have clear, even boolean, success conditions. You either fixed the bug, or you didn’t.

Ownership.

Actually wanting to attain the goal.

Caring.

Knowing something goes to epistemology - reasons, ways of getting convinced, methods of thinking about truth claims.
